Jon Huntsman Makes the Case for a GOP That Cares About Climate Change
I argued last night that Rick Perry is betting that anti-science attitudes in the Tea Party will propel him to the GOP nomination. Here’s Jon Huntsman, making the case that an anti-science candidate would be unelectable in a general election:
When you make comments that fly in the face of what 98 out of 100 climate scientists have said, when you call into question the science of evolution, all I am saying is that in order for the Republican party to win, We can’t run from science. We can’t run from mainstream conservative philosophy. We’ve got to win voters. We’ve got to do what I did as governor, when I was re-elected. We reached out and we brought in independents and conservative Democrats. If we’re going to win in 2012, we’ve got to make sure that we have somebody who can win based upon numbers, the math that will get us get there. And by making comments that basically don’t reflect the reality of the situation, we turn people off.
Oil Companies Looking Out for Women’s Rights?
Here’s the latest ad from the folks at Ethical Oil:
And here’s the transcript:
Fact.
Last year we bought over four hundred million barrels of oil from Saudi Arabia. We bankrolled a state that doesn’t allow women to drive.
Doesn’t allow them to leave their homes – or work – without their male guardians’ permission.
And a state where a woman’s testimony only counts for a half of a man’s.
Why are we paying their bills…
And funding their oppression?
Today there’s a better way.
Ethical oil. From Canada’s oil sands.
Ethical Oil. A choice we have to make.

In New Ad, Ron Paul Attacks Rick Perry for Supporting Al Gore
This is starting to get interesting:
Ron Paul is taking on Rick Perry in a new television ad blasting the Texas governor for for supporting Al Gore’s 1988 presidential campaign, POLITICO has learned. The 60-second spot, backed by a six-figure ad buy — the first negative ad attacking Perry to come directly out of a Republican campaign this primary season — contrasts Paul’s endorsement of Ronald Reagan in 1980 with Perry’s role as the Texas chairman for Gore’s first presidential campaign.
“The establishment called him extreme and unelectable, they said he was the wrong man for the job. It’s why a young Texan named Ron Paul was one of only four congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan’s campaign for president, believing in Reagan’s message of smaller government and lower taxes,” the ad says. “After Reagan, Senator Al Gore ran for president, pledging to raise taxes and increase spending, pushing his liberal values. And Al Gore found a cheerleader in Texas named Rick Perry. Rick Perry helped lead Al Gore’s campaign to undo the Reagan revolution, fighting to elect Al Gore President of the United States.”
