Knowledge of Climate Change Strongly Correlated to Tea Party Affiliation

In a new poll (PDF), CNN asked the following question:
Which of the following statements comes closest to your view of global warming:
- Global warming is a proven fact and is mostly caused by emissions from cars and industrial facilities such as power plants and factories
- Global warming is a proven fact and is mostly caused by natural changes that have nothing to do with emissions from cars and industrial facilities
- Global warming is a theory that has not yet been proven
As the poll’s findings show, the Americans who are least likely to understand the connection between greenhouse gas emissions and climate change are Tea Party supporters, Republicans, those older than 65, whites, those from the Midwest and South, and men. Those most likely to understand the connection are those who oppose the Tea Party, Democrats, those from the Northeast, non-whites, younger and middle-aged Americans, and women.
