Ed Schultz Corrects Santorum and Gingrich on Oil Production Under Obama

I’ve been writing for about a month now about the GOP’s attempts to blame President Obama for high gas prices. Their argument is always that President Obama has hindered domestic oil production with his burdensome regulations. As I’ve documented, this is blatantly false. Domestic oil production is up 11% under President Obama, and it was down 15% under President Bush.

At 8:07 PM in last night’s Republican presidential debate, Rick Santorum claimed that President Obama has put a “stop sign” on domestic oil production. Newt Gingrich later said the Obama Administration is “an anti-jobs, anti-business, anti- American energy destructive force.”

Two hours later, Ed Schultz corrected him on MSNBC, explaining, “They don’t care about the environment. They want to let big oil run wild. And they also made the statement tonight that we’re not drilling as much as we used to. Excuse me, the production of oil in this country is up 11% since President Obama has into office and many liberals are concerned about his policy on that.”
